The Death of An ASP in Ekiti Has Been Confirmed By Police

Following the death of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in an accident involving the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) van in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, December 29, the Ekiti state police command has been placed in mourning.

Tunde Mobayo, the commissioner of police in Ekiti state, issued a statement on Wednesday, December 29, confirming the death of the cop and eight other injured officers.

Mobayo, who mourned the officer’s death and expressed sympathy for the injured, dismissed reports that the cop was crushed to death by a police van while on the hunt for suspected Internet fraudsters.

The CP stated in a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, Sunday Abutu, that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault in the police van while the RRS operatives were on their way to respond to a distress call.
